Nexperia Automotive DFN Bipolar Transistors offer excellent thermal performance that allows an equal or better Ptot on the smaller DFN footprint and features high power dissipation, low operating temperature, high reliability, and robust solder joints. This DFN with the bipolar transistor is qualified according to AEC-Q101 and recommended for use in automotive applications. These bipolar transistors are applicable in linear voltage regulators, battery-driven devices, MOSFET drivers, high-side switches, power management, and amplifiers.

The old saying goes “think outside the box”, well while this may help engineers find new solutions, Nexperia decided to go the other way, and thought inside the box with their Automotive DFN packages. Not a product by itself, the Automotive DFN package is used across Nexperias range of automotive-grade components ranging from diodes to transistors, providing engineers with a compact and reliable IC footprint. The DFN packages shrink common components down in size considerable, which not only reduces the final weight, but also allows for PCBs to be made smaller (or add more parts). In addition to their smaller size, they are able to stay cooler when operating at the same power as larger footprints such as SOT23, and this allows them to operate at higher powers. At the same time, the use of side wettable flanks allow AIO systems to check that the parts have been soldered correctly (something which is hard to do with under-package soldered parts).
