Vishay SMDY1 EMI Suppression Safety Capacitors
Vishay / BC Components SMDY1 Series EMI Suppression Safety Capacitors are ceramic disc capacitors designed for surface-mount use. These capacitors are AEC-Q200 qualified, conform to IEC 60384-14 standards, and feature a Humidity Class IIB rating. The EMI suppression safety capacitors have a capacitance range of 470pF to 4700pF, insulation resistance of ≥10000MΩ, and a capacitance tolerance of ±20%. These devices operate within a temperature range of -55°C to +125°C and a maximum dissipation factor of 2.5%. Typical applications include EMI/RFI suppression, filter capacitors on AC/DC converters, primary and secondary coupling on battery chargers, and consumer applications.

Sometimes soldering through hole components to a board feels like you’re trying to put a square peg in a round hole. You end up bending the wires and there’s always clearance on the backside. At least with SMD components you’re fitting a square-ish peg atop some square-ish copper pads...so we’re all squared away. Vishay’s AC line-rated ceramic disc safety capacitors offer X1 and Y1 voltage ratings in a small, surface mount package.
These capacitors give an alternative to the traditional through hole safety capacitor and meet all the relevant performance standards with the additional benefit of maximal reliability under some of the harshest conditions. With nearly three times the capacitance compared to the competition, these safety capacitors are ideal for EMI/RFI suppression and filtering in an array of applications including power supplies, solar inverters, lighting, and smart meters. Finally, the SMD package is encapsulated with a flame retardant epoxy resin forming a halogen-free environmental seal.
