Unless you have a flux capacitor charge, you should probably protect your electronics from lightning strikes and other transients. Vishay’s TransZorb TVS SMBJ-D Series are designed to protect sensitive devices against transients, from secondary lightning strikes, and inductive load switching. The series achieves a very tight plus or minus 3.5% breakdown voltage tolerance and low reverse leakage current to minimally impact power efficiency.
The devices are rated for higher peak pole surge currents and lower clamping voltages than previous devices for improved protect of ICs. The SMBJ-D Series is offered with a wide range of standoff voltages, unidirectional or bidirectional polarity, and a wide operating temperature range allowing it to be used in applications from consumer devices, computers, industrial, and telecom equipment. The TVS is packaged in the DO-214AA package that measures just 5.4 by 3.6 by 2.3 millimeters, providing designers excellent protection in a small package for compact and high density designs.
