ROHM Semiconductor Ambient Light Sensor (ALS) ICs are designed to control the brightness of LED-backlight LCDs. The ALS ICs are available in analog and digital configurations, delivering accurate light measurement, mirroring human eye sensitivity. The analog variants offer current sourcing proportional to light intensity, covering a measurement range of 0lx to over 10000lx, while the digital versions output a 16-bit digital signal representing light levels from 0lx to approximately 65535lx. Typical applications include digital cameras, LCD TVs, mobile phones, and notebook PCs.
