Honeywell CSNV Series Current Sensors

Honeywell CSNV Series Current Sensors are available in CSNV500, CSNV700, and CSNV1500 versions for current measurement for Battery Management Systems (BMS) in electrified vehicles (EV, HEV, PHEV, BEV). The CSNV500 and CSNV1500 feature active closed-loop current sensing using Hall-effect technology, while the CSNV700 features active flux gate current sensing and is AEC-Q100 qualified. These current sensors are non-intrusive and electrically isolated from the monitored integrated circuits to meet higher quality and reliability requirements with voltages of 500V, 700V, and 1500V. These current sensors can operate within the temperature range of -40°C to +85°C with a supply voltage range of 7V to 18V.

Measuring large currents has always been a thorn in the backsides of engineers; current sense resistors offer actual direct readings but require stupidly large resistors, and indirect measurements are often inaccurate. Well, Honeywell decided to give engineers an early Christmas present with their CSNV700 Series Flux Gate Current Sensors. These current sensors use patented technologies to measure magnetic flux and convert this reading into a current measurement that is highly accurate.

The current measuring range of these sensors ranges from -700A to +700A, so that’s a lot of amps for sure! The sensors are also capable of operating on voltages from 7V to 18V, and reading results from this device can be done over a CAN bus. Now, you might be wondering if this device is automotive qualified, as it has a CAN bus, and the answer to that question is absolute, its AEC-Q100 qualification allows it to be used in automotive applications.
