3M 450 Wire-to-Board Systems
3M 450 Series Wire-to-Board Systems 1.27mm is a two-part system consisting of a 451 series wire mount socket and a 452 series board mount header. The mating components are designed on a 1.27mm or 0.050 inch grid, and the small, robust socket and header mate together, connecting 0.025 inch pitch ribbon cables to Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs). A variety of 0.025 inch pitch ribbon cables are also available, forming a complete, end-to-end system of a header, socket, and cable. The compact system helps achieve high-performance electronic equipment designs in a small form factor as required by communications, mil-aero, industrial production, data centers, and high-performance computing applications. 3M 451 Series 1.27mm Ribbon Cable Wiremount Sockets come with friction latch configurations to enable increased protection against accidental disconnect when using a box header. These 3M sockets offer a high connection density and robust connector in a small package. The 451 series 1.27mm ribbon cable wiremount sockets are available in multiple configurations and enable mass termination.
452 Series 1.27mm Shrouded Boardmount Headers
3M 452 Series 1.27mm Shrouded Boardmount Headers are designed to maximize design flexibility and minimize a PCB footprint. These 3M headers are available with or without ejector latches. This innovative assembly method allows the addition of positive latch and ejection functionality with minimal size addition. The 452 series 1.27mm shrouded boardmount headers are available in the vertical mount, right angle mount, thru-hole, and SMT configurations.

That’s true love to an engineer. 3M is only making me love ribbon cable even more with the 3M 450 series wire-to-board systems. The 450 series is a combination of 3M 451 sockets and 452 headers with up to 50 positions. They utilize 0.025 inch pitch ribbon cables, yielding a pin pitch of 0.05 inches for high density designs. The 3M 451 series sockets offer IDC terminations to quickly terminate up to 50 conductors in a single cycle, while 452 series PCB headers are available in both through-hole and SMT variations, providing engineers with plenty of design freedom. The connectors are available with optional strain relief, friction latches, and 30 micron gold plating for applications needing additional ruggedness and improved reliability. The 450 series wire to board system is also available in reel packaging for use in automated assembly processes.
