Types of Antennas
Indoor Antennas
An Indoor antenna is a type of radio or TV antenna placed indoors, as opposed to being mounted on the roof of a building. These days, indoor antennas are a common solution for cord cutting, and there are a variety of commercial options. They are typically considered an easy and cheap solution that can work well when the receiver is relatively close to the broadcasting transmitter and the building walls do not shield the radio waves too much.
Outdoor Antennas
Outdoor antennas are placed outside of buildings and can be used to pick up a wide range of frequencies. This should not be confused with a satellite dish, which has a similar use but is a different product. Outdoor antennas can be used for television, wi-fi, satellite, cellular, and radio.
PCB Antennas
PCB antennas, or Printed Circuit Board antennas, can be a critical component for a wireless system. They are small in size and easily integrated with other high-frequency circuits. The performance and consistency of a PCB antenna depends heavily on the quality of its foundation circuit laminate, with size very much a function of the target frequency and wavelength of the antenna.
Vehicle Antennas
There are a vareity of frequencies and uses for vehicle antennas. As such, in modern cars we find up to 24 antennas placed on the vehicle and inside the vehicle. This variety of antennas can include monopole antennas, patch antennas, on-glass antenna, and more. While most people think of an antenna as being on the roof of the car, there are a variety of acceptable locations for vehicle antennas, including the windows and spoilers.
About Antennas
Antennas are critical for establishing and maintaining a reliable radio connection. They’re the transducers that convert the voltage from a transmitter into a radio signal. And they pick radio signals out of the air and convert them into a voltage for recovery in a receiver. Antennas can be designed to transmit and receive radio waves in all horizontal directions equally (omnidirectional antennas), or in a particular direction (directional, or high-gain, or “beam” antennas).
At TTI, we carry a wide variety of antennas, such as cellular antennas, RFID/NFC antennas, multiband antennas and more. We also carry antenna components such as antenna accessories and DIP switches. We stock high-quality electronic components from trusted manufacturers like Abracon, Spectrum Control, Molex, Panasonic, Pulse, and more.
