Overcoming Common Connectivity Challenges in High Power Electric Aircraft

Design engineers must overcome many connectivity challenges when handling high voltage and high current levels in electric rotorcraft and urban air mobility (UAM) applications.

Electric-powered vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, or eVTOL, as well as rotorcraft and personal air vehicles (PAVs), must handle large amounts of power to take off and fly. This creates a host of electrical interconnect challenges for design engineers who must deal with high voltages and high-kW peak output for motors, inverters, controllers, batteries and other systems.

This article details how to deal with the common issues that can result from those high voltages and specialized designs, from critical voltage stresses, to avoiding arc tracking damage, to managing power management and thermal challenges – and many more.
