A Smart Standard for Smart Lighting Systems
9.17.2021 // Zhaga Consortium
According to a U.N. study, buildings account for 36 percent of the world’s total energy use and 39 percent of energy-related carbon emissions, yet those buildings remain up to 70 percent vacant. Reducing carbon emissions related to buildings presents a challenge for both building designers and the designers of systems used within them – especially industrial lighting.
The Zhaga Consortium wants to help meet that challenge. Zhaga Book 20 brings together complementary specifications from the Zhaga Consortium and the Digital Illumination Interface Alliance’s (DiiA). This article presents their approach to creating new standards for building infrastructure, with smart, interoperable LED luminaires that can be upgraded easily to IoT connectivity. These new lighting standards will help achieve the energy efficiency, safety and other benefits of smart lighting.
