Smiths Interconnect KA Series PCB Connectors

Smiths Interconnect / Molex KA Series PCB Connectors are specifically designed for rugged applications in the military, aerospace, and commercial aviation sectors. These connectors meet the performance requirements of MIL-DTL 55302 and ensure reliability in extreme environmental conditions. The KA series connectors use Hypertac hyperboloid contact technology, resist shock and vibration-induced wear, and provide high durability and a long operational lifespan. These PCB connectors provide greater design versatility compared to other MIL-DTL 55302 connectors and include multiple termination options, row configurations, and pin counts vary from 17 to 490 contacts.

Video

This TTI Tech Specs video for Smiths Interconnect KA Series Connectors explains that they are tough and can be used in extreme environments. They meet MIL-DTL 55302 standards, making them good for many applications, including aerospace, military and commercial uses. The Hypertac Hyperboloid connector reduces the force needed to form connections and the 360° connection ensures contact with the wire.

It is said that no bond is stronger than family, but I would beg to differ thanks to the Smiths Interconnect KA Series of connectors providing engineers with unmatched reliability, ruggedness, and ability to operate in extreme environments (can’t say that about a family road trip). The KA series of connectors are MIL-DTL 55302 complaint which makes them ideal for numerous applications including aerospace, military, and commercial, while the through-hole design makes these parts exceptionally tough when soldered to a PCB. The use of Hypertac Hyperboloid connectors not only reduces the force needed to form connections, but the hyperbolic wire cage ensures 360° of connection. As such, each connector contact can withstand up to 9A of current, has a minimum mechanical life expectance of 100,000 operations, and an operating temperature range of -55°C to +125°C. Finally, the connectors come in numerous combinations including right-angle, straight, crimp, solder cup, and wire wrap terminations.
