KEMET T550 Series Polymer Hermetic Seal (PHS) Capacitors are tantalum capacitors with a Ta anode and Ta₂O₅ dielectric. These components use a conductive organic polymer as the cathode, replacing the traditional MnO₂ or wet electrolyte. The design allows for very low ESR and improved capacitance retention at high frequencies and low temperatures. These capacitors also feature a benign failure mode, preventing the case breaches that can occur with wet tantalum types. The T550 series offers higher ripple current handling and a lower ESR range compared to wet tantalum capacitors. These tantalum capacitors are rated for use at voltages up to 80% of their rated voltage with reliability equal to or better than traditional MnO₂ or wet tantalum capacitors. The T550 PHS capacitors operate within a temperature range of -55°C to +105°C and have a capacitance range of 20µF to 820µF with a voltage rating of 6VDC to 75VDC. These devices are ideal for high voltage power management applications, including buck-boost converters, filtering, hold-up capacitors, and high ripple current scenarios.
