Honeywell GAPS and HAPS Series Aerospace Proximity Sensors

Honeywell General Aerospace Proximity Sensors (GAPS) and Harsh Aerospace Proximity Sensors (HAPS) Series Aerospace Proximity Sensors are designed to detect the presence or absence of targets in aircraft systems using Eddy Current Killed Oscillator (ECKO) technology. GAPS sensors are suited for standard environments, while HAPS sensors are hermetically sealed for harsh-duty applications. Both platforms feature integrated health monitoring, providing diagnostic feedback to help identify internal faults, improving maintenance efficiency in aerospace operations. These sensors operate within a temperature range from -55°C to +115°C and find applications in automotive, medical, and transportation.

Features

  • -55°C to +115°C operating temperature range
  • 200MΩ minimum insulation resistance at 50Vdc
  • Built-in health monitoring functionality
  • Contactless design
  • Durable in harsh environments
  • Improved vibration resistance

Applications

  • Aerospace
    • Flight controls

Video

This TTI Tech Specs video for Honeywell GAPS and HAPS Series Sensors explains Honeywell’s Aerospace Proximity Sensors are designed to sense the presence or absence of a target. They’re hermetically sealed, can operate at up to 115 degrees Celsius and can withstand up to 20G’s of vibration and 40G’s of shock.

There’s no better piece of equipment for measuring gaps than GAPS, by which I mean General Aerospace Proximity Sensors from Honeywell. I wonder if that pun was intentional. Honeywell’s Aerospace Proximity Sensors are designed to sense the presence or absence of a target. They’re hermetically sealed, can operate at up to 115°C and can withstand up to 20G’s of vibration and 40G’s of shock.

They also feature an integrated health monitoring capability that uses a third output to indicate the sensor’s health for reduced maintenance time and cost. They’re cylindrical in form and can have threaded or flanged connectors with inline or right-angle configurations. GAPS can sense up to 3.5mm with 4 different ranges to choose from. Honeywell also offers the HAPS for harsh-duty aircraft applications and can sense up to 4mm with 6 different ranges.
