EATON MOVTP Thermally Protected Metal Oxide Varistors

EATON MOVTP Series Thermally Protected Metal Oxide Varistors (MOVs) are designed to transition to an open circuit at the end of their service life. These MOVs combine a metal oxide varistor and a thermal fuse assembly, available in 14mm and 20mm disc sizes. The MOVTP varistors feature a wide voltage range from 130VAC to 465VAC and offer high surge current protection up to 10kA. Typical applications include white goods, power supplies, and smart meters.

Features

With Eaton’s MOVTP series thermally protected metal oxide varistors, you get two devices in one.  And this isn’t some late night infomercial where we ask you to “just pay separate processing and handling,” this is a real UL 1449 certified device with practical benefits in smart meters, surge protectors, UPSs, power supplies, and many other applications.  The MOVTP series integrates two of Eaton’s circuit protection elements: a thermal fuse in series with a metal oxide varistor.

This thermal element opens if the MOV overheats due to prolonged or abnormal overvoltage events, and it ensures the MOV becomes an open at the end of its life rather than a short like a conventional MOV.  An optional 3rd lead can be used to indicate the operating status of the device.  The MOVTP series is available in 14 and 20 millimeter disc sizes with voltage ratings from 130 to 465 volts AC and peak current ratings up to 10,000 amps.
