Cornell Dubilier THA and THAS Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors

Cornell Dubilier THA and THAS Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors provide high energy density in a compact, low-profile design. The THA Thinpack features an 8.2mm profile and operates for 5,000 hours at 85°C. The THAS Thinpack measures 9mm and operates for 5,000 hours at 105°C. Both models support a temperature range of –55°C to +105°C, a voltage range of 10VDC to 450VDC, and a capacitance range of 60μF to 18000μF. Applications include LED driver modules, drones, compact power supplies, and 1U rack-mounted devices.

This TTI Tech Specs Video for CDE THA Series Capacitors explains how the series can achieve up to 1.1 joules per cubic centimeter and can easily replace banks of surface mount solid tantalum or aluminum electrolytics, which can simplify assembly and lower bulk storage costs with values from 140 µF at 450 V to 18,000 µF at 10 V.

CDE’s THA Series of capacitors are a lot like me, high energy density and a low profile. With a calculated energy density of up to 1.1 joules per cubic centimeter, type THA can easily replace banks of surface mount solid tantalum or aluminum electrolytics, which can simplify assembly and lower bulk storage costs with values from 140 µF at 450 V to 18,000 µF at 10 V.

The THA Series itself is an aluminum electrolytic capacitor, but it uses a high performance foil and electrolyte in a flat package that enables much higher energy density while keeping a low profile; 8.2 mm to be exact. They’re rated for 3,000 hours at 85°C (5,000 hours for 2020+ models), but you can also get the THAS Series, which adds a stainless steel sleeve that pushes that to 3000 hours at 105°C (5,000 hours for 2020+ models) and a still-ultra-thin 9 mm profile. The high energy density and low profile make CDE’s THA series capacitors ideal for many applications, like portable computing, drones, LED driver modules, and compact power supplies.
