Bourns IsoMOV Series Hybrid Protection
Bourns IsoMOV Series Hybrid Protection are hybrid technology varistors created by combining the breakthrough surge performance of EdgMOV protection devices with an integrated Gas Discharge Tube (GDT) isolation structure. The IsoMOV series performs well as a long-life protector with lower capacitance, very low leakage, and excellent handling density.
The IsoMOV protector family includes model IsoM3, IsoM5, and IsoM8 variants with respective IsoMOV design kits. The variants feature nominal surge ratings of 3kA, 5kA, and 8kA. These protectors offer performance usually found in larger traditional MOV devices. The IsoMOV devices are ideally suited for AC and DC power applications where either premium performance or space savings are required.

Some combinations are better than others. Chips and cheese? Yes, please! Pineapple on pizza? I’d rather have MREs. Bourns, however, has a combo that every engineer can agree on, sandwiching a GDT inside a MOV in their IsoMOV hybrid circuit protection device. The result is a higher surge in current ratings for smaller packages and longer operational life. IsoMOV devices offer nominal surge current ratings of 3000A, 5000A, and 8000A in 10mm, 14mm, and 20mm class devices, providing surge ratings comparable to the next larger size of a conventional MOV. This allows engineers to improve circuit protection performance in the same footprint or shrink the size of the design without compromising protection levels.
The devices are offered with max continuous operating voltages up to 555VAC, with lower clamping voltage, low capacitance, and low leakage. They also have an extended temperature range up to +125°C, are temperature overvoltage tolerant, and are UL 1449 Type 4 recognized components.
