KYOCERA AVX VLAS Series Low Clamp Automotive TransGuard Varistors are designed for applications where a lower clamping-to-working voltage ratio is required. These varistors are AEC-Q200 qualified and offer bidirectional ESD overvoltage protection as well as EMI/RFI attenuation in a single SMT package. The VLAS series TransGuard varistors are available in 0603 to 1210 case sizes, 16Vdc working voltage, and energy ratings from 0.1J to 1.6J and operate within a temperature range from -55°C to +125°C. Typically used in automotive, industrial, and general applications.

Designing circuit protection is a lot like baking: if your ratios aren’t right, you might end up with something that gets burnt to a crisp. For varistors protecting sensitive circuits, you want a low clamping-to-working voltage ratio to keep your ICs from getting smoked. AVX Low Clamping Automotive Transguard Multilayer Varistors provide a lower ratio than standard varistors, with a 16Vdc working voltage and a 35V clamping voltage, and they provide performance suitable for automotive, industrial, and other demanding applications.
Varistors are available with case sizes 0603 to 1210 and offer bidirectional protection for peak current up to 500A. In the off state, the varistors have very low leakage current, helping to maximize efficiency, and they also provide broadband EMI filtering due to the capacitance of the multilayer construction. The parts are AEC-Q200 qualified and can operate at up to 125°C.
