USB went from Low Speed to Full Speed to High Speed to SuperSpeed to SuperSpeed+, taking us all the way from 1.5Mb/s with USB 1.0 to 20Gb/s with USB 3.2. Now, with USB4, they’ve gone straight to ludicrous speed. That’s not the official name, even though it should be, because USB4 supports speeds up to 40Gb/s, and Amphenol ICC’s USB 4 Type C connectors support that data rate and so much more.
The connectors also support Thunderbolt 4, DisplayPort, and power delivery, with copper alloy terminals supporting 5A currents for USB power delivery up to 100W. Amphenol ICC offers top-mount and mid-mount connectors, with an optional outer shell on top-mount variants for increased PCB retention in rugged applications. They also feature an enhanced middle plate side wall that provides wiggle-free connectivity and maximizes the contact area for improved contact stability.
