As a kid, I utilized various electronics to listen to music—from my Walkman for cassettes, to my discman for CDs, and to my phone fit with numerous capabilities including geo-locating applications like luggage and pet tracking. As I experienced the evolution of electronics with many of my peers, it’s interesting to note the components that make up such technologically advanced electronics. Patch antennas, for example, can be found in all kinds of electronics. Abracon’s APAK series of patch antennas provide high gain, multi-band capability, and compact package options for a variety of applications. The APAK series are designed for internal and embedded applications, with options for high-precision GNSS, wireless communications, and combo solutions. Passive patch antennas are offered with a gain of up to 7dBi [CA1], while active antennas include a high-gain LNA to maximize performance and minimize RF design effort. Stacked patches, capable of serving multiple frequencies, are also available. The APAK series includes through-hole, surface mount, and connectorized antennas with package sizes as small as 9mm x 9mm x 4mm.
