3M 387 Series One Piece Branch Link Connectors enable branching into the main network wire (20AWG to 16 AWG) with a one-piece connector that is field-terminable. The field-terminability provides the ability to optimize the system routing. The one-piece connector design reduces installed system space and requires fewer parts to manage during the installation. These connectors are available in a splash-proof (IPX4) version for applications where there may be water condensation or near wet operations, such as washing operations for foods, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.

I had a manager once that made me understand why factories are sometimes called “plants”: he branched off so many wires that the whole network looked like the lemon tree my neighbors have never pruned. With Industry 4.0, factories everywhere are going to have more branches, but at least the 3M One Piece Branch Link connector makes branching off the main network wire easy and reliable. They feature a single-action IDC termination, providing reliable connectivity without the need for special tools.
Using 3M’s connectors for T and H-branching, adding sensors and field network wires can be done with reduced wire usage and overall cost. The connectors are rated for up to 32V and 3A and can fit wires from 20AWG to 16AWG. They can be used between negative 20°C and positive 85°C, depending on the current level. They’re also available in a splash-proof version which provides IPX4 protection for applications with exposure to condensation or splashing from wet operations.
