The OSRAM Opto Semiconductors SFH 5711 consists of a photodiode that is used for light detection and an IC with amplification of the photodiode output signal, logarithmic converter and temperature correction. Ambient light sensors are used wherever the settings of a system need to be adjusted to the ambient light conditions as perceived by humans. They are designed to detect light with a comparable spectral sensitivity as human eyes do. Target applications include display brightness control, control panel light levels and dusk-to-dawn lighting systems.
