Over the last couple weeks I’ve been running some of the lower elevation trails around Rocky Mountain National Park since the snow has been getting deep up higher. Some recommended winter routes include:
- Bridal Veil Falls (Cow Creek Trailhead)
- Windriver Trail Loop under Emerald Mountain (past the YMCA on 66)
- Black Canyon Trail and splitting off to MacGregor Falls (from Lumpy Ridge / Gem Lake Trailhead)
- Deer Mountain (from the west side)
All of these will be a tough run on the day of snowfall, but the trails often get packed down (at least part of the way) within a few days of snowfall. You’ll likely still be running on snow, but when it’s packed down it’s a lot easier.
