One night camping gear checklist

The other day I went for a short one-night backpacking trip to Peregrine backcountry site in Rocky Mountain National Park. I put together a packing list which I wanted to share:

Clothes to Wear

  • La Sportiva Ultra Raptor trail running shoes
  • Drymax trail socks
  • Patagonia nine-trail running shorts
  • Under Armour HeatGear Flyweight Short Sleeve Shirt
  • Tilley LTM6 Hat

Stuff to Pack

  • sleeping bag
  • sleeping pad
  • pillow (luxury item, can use spare clothes as a pillow instead)
  • glowsticks (fun lighting at night/ in the tent)
  • bear canister for food and all scented items
  • toothbrush
  • toothpaste
  • sawyer mini
  • squeeze bag for sawyer mini
  • Two 1 liter water bottles (maybe full, maybe empty and fill at stream by campsite)
  • spare socks for morning
  • spare shirt/shorts to sleep in in case get food spilled on clothes
  • rain pants (for warmth at night and/or rain)
  • rain jacket (for warmth at night and/or rain)
  • thin long sleeve shirt (for warmth at night)
  • Big Agnes Copper Spur UL2 Tent
  • Tent ground pad – window shrink wrap film cut to tent size
  • sunscreen
  • headlamp
  • tissues/baby wipes
  • first aid kit
  • little burner & fuel
  • fork to hold marshmallows over burner

Food

I often suggest picking up pizzas, putting slices into ziploc bags, and eating them cold at the campsite for dinner. Marshmallows, graham crackers, chocolate, popcorn, m&m’s, chips, poptarts, granola bars for snacks & light breakfast
