It’s definitely spring-time in the Rockies

A few random updates here:

  • The Lumpy Ridge Loop is “in”, as in the snow is all melted away for the moment (except maybe a tiny stretch in the woods near Dark Mountain) and the weather has been warm with highs in the 50’s to 60’s lately, although we’re expecting 4-8 inches of snow this weekend (should melt fast).
  • I’ve been testing out the new Salomon XA Enduro trail running shoe. After about 15 miles in them I have a few reflections – the gaiter is a bit loose around my ankle and some pebbles/junk still get in because of this, but it blocks out about 85% of what I’d get in with normal trail runners. The durability is definitely a question mark – several small dents / gashes in the sole and sides already from just a few miles of somewhat rocky trails (and off-trail). Weight – feel incredibly lightweight. I don’t think I like the lacing system for steep downhills – the laces dug into the top of my foot / ankle pretty painfully on a steep 0.6 mile hike down with drop of 1100 ft in elevation.
  • I’m still battling some leg issues – the knee isn’t 100% yet and an achilles has been a bit sore lately. Trying to keep expectations low for the summer but eager to explore the outdoors more.
